Brown sugar scrub for acne

Pamper yourself with this yummy easy-to-make DIY brown sugar scrub that is great for oily, acne-prone skin.

Brown sugar scrub is excellent for exfoliating the skin, it scrubs off dead skin cells from the outer layer of the skin. When these dead skin cells are removed, this gives room for the healthy skin cells to regenerate and replace the old ones, giving your skin a glowing, smooth look.

Benefits of using brown sugar scrub –

This scrub will give your skin a deep cleanse; remove the excess oil and dirt trapped inside your skin pores – which is the main cause of acne and pimples – and prevent a further breakout. This deep cleanse makes it easier for blackheads, whiteheads, acne pimples, etc, to be successfully cleared.

Glycolic acid; which is a powerful alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), in brown sugar, makes it an effective ingredient for removing toxins and bacteria and also moisturise the skin.

Brown sugar is a natural humectant, so it locks in moisture, hydrates the skin and prevents the skin from becoming too dry, keeping it soft and supple.
You only need 2 simple ingredients for this powerful DIY face scrub that exfoliates and cleanses your skin; brown sugar and olive oil.
Adding Olive oil to this facial scrub will give you added benefits. Olive oil is a natural moisturiser which is rich in vitamin E and healthy fats. It hydrates and lubricates dry, dull skin without clogging the pores preventing further breakouts.

How to do a brown sugar scrub:

Make sure that you use organic brown sugar and not white sugar (white sugar probably won’t be as effective as brown sugar).
What you need:

– 1 tablespoon of organic brown sugar.
– 1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil.
Process:

1. Wash your face thoroughly and pat dry.
2. Scoop 1 tablespoon of organic brown sugar into a small bowl and add 1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil to it and mix together.
(Ensure that the quantity of brown sugar is a bit more than the olive oil or else the olive oil will melt the sugar and it will become too drippy and will not be able to properly exfoliate your skin).
3. Apply the scrub evenly all over your face and neck. Be very gentle with it, don’t scrub too hard so that you don’t scratch or irritate your skin.

4. Leave on your face for about 10 minutes (try not to lick the mixture off your face, hehe). Wash off with a mild face wash or soap.

5. Pat your face dry and moisturise well with a natural moisturiser.

You can substitute olive oil with coconut oil if necessary, coconut oil also works well with this scrub.

If you have a sensitive skin, you might notice a slight redness to your face but that is nothing to worry about.
It’s just because this scrub stimulates blood circulation in your facial tissues. This will disappear in no time and leave your face glowing, soft, hydrated and smooth to the touch. So you don’t need to do anything to it.
